If you are in a hurry and need quick bite, you might think fast food joints like Macdonald or KFC. Well in Japan, if you really want a quick meal, you can find food joints where you can literally finish a meal within a few minutes. These places are basically called “Stand Up Counters” and in Japanese “Tachi-Gui”

What exactly are Stand Up Counters (TachiGui)?

The words are pretty much self-explanatory, a counter where you bring your ordered food to eat.

What are some of the Food Items that I can order?

The food items available at Tachi-Gui are offered at a cheap and reasonable price. The most popular dish  that can be order is of course noodles, particular Ramen, Soba and Udon. A quick couple slurps, Japanese Style, is all is needed!

Ordering from a Tachi-Gui?

Sometimes it will be just a machine operated Noodle Machine with stand-up counters within proximity of the machine.

Other shops will have a person taking your orders and will have more of a variety of dishes to choose from.

Where can you find these Stand Up Counters?

They can be found pretty much in any crowded shopping/entertainment area like the famous Ginza area and most commonly in railway/subway stations. You will find many foreigners and travelers at Tachi-Gui who love the experience and the cheap price.

We really recommend trying at least once at a Tachi-Gui especially if you are on a rush.
